A wee story…
My studio is right here, deep in the mean unforgiving streets of Lochgoilhead. A small village in Argyll on the West of Scotland, it's mainly raining but we get sun for a few days of the year.
This whole thing started out as a full renovation company that had visions of world domination (seriously) and it was getting there (seriously, probably not, who knows) I had employees, great work, good contacts and doing all that business stuff that you think you should be doing. I found myself at a stage where I was constantly working, my hair was greying too quick and our three boys were growing up even quicker. I spent a year or so wondering how I could work from home. I wanted to get that life/work balance that everyone bangs on about in some sort of order. Eventually I stopped work for a bit and we done some travelling. I got to know my wife and boys again. I was shit at surfing!
When we got back to the motherland I needed some money so I needed to work. I set up a small furniture making studio. The plan was to work it alongside the renovation projects I do and make good stuff, stuff that lasts, low volume, high quality. I only want to build things that you never need to replace. Since then we've been non stop, designing and building everything from our own furniture to taking on commission pieces for private clients, designers and architects.
Who knows were it goes, man. The journey’s exciting and I'm still wondering how I'm managing to make a living doing what I do.
Peace, love, and save the whale :)
